It is a disease of the sebaceous follicle, primarily the pilosebaceous units located on the face, chest, and back. Inflammatory and non- inflammatory lesions presents with highly variable morphologies.<\/p>\n<h2>Specific Investigations<\/h2>\n<p>None are required routinely.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Consider microbiology to exclude Gram- positive or- negative folliculitis<\/li>\n<li>Consider endocrine work-up if hyperandrogenemia is suspected<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Therapy<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Comedonal Acne<\/strong> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Topical retinoids<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Mild Papulopustular Acne<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Benzoyl peroxide (topical) with topical retinoids or with topical antimicrobials ( antibiotics or azelaic acid)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Moderate Populopustular Acne Without Scarring<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Benzoyl peroxide ( topical) with topical retinoids and topical antibiotics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Moderate Populopustular Acne With Light Scarring<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For males use oral antibiotics ( tetracyclines, macrolieds) with benzoyl peroxide (topical) or topical retinoids<\/li>\n<li>For femals use an oral anti- androgen contraceptive with benzoyl peroxide (topical) and topical antibiotics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Severe Populopustular Acne<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Oral isotretioin<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Nodulocystic and \/ or Conglobate Acne<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Oral isotretioin<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Acne Fluminans<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Oral isotretioin with low-dose oral corticosteroids<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<style>.innercontent ul li{ font-size:16px;}<\/style>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Acne vulgaris is one of the most common dermatologic disorders encountered in everyday clinical practice.
